makeit and bakeit with owen

I am blessed to have some really great friends across several companies in the craft business.  One of them is a great gal that works atColorbok.  She dropped off a box of goodies on Friday that included some really fun stuff for the boys to do some craft projects with.  Since it is National Craft Month, it seemed more than appropriate to break it out and have a crafty night with the kids!  It is a great way to spend time together – playing, creating, learning, and trying something new.  It was definitely fun!

He made this super cute and colorful bowl:

Owen was really excited to give the MakeIt & BakeIt kit a try and was just dying to get his hands on it.  So, we tore the box open and got busy crafting.  He absolutely loved it and has already asked if he can make another bowl tonight! It does require adult help since you are using the oven, but it is no harder than Shrinky Dinks or something similar would be.

Here’s a little video of him having fun that we shot while playing…

Now – if you happen to have a young crafter at your house who might also find this to be a fun little project, leave a comment here for your chance to win one of these great Colorbok kits, as well as a pair of Fiskars kid scissors! I will draw a winner Wednesday night!

to be featured today on the Creating Keepsakes blog

I was so excited when they asked me to write a blog post and I knew I had just the right pics for it – those fun ones of the boys with their mustaches.  I played around with one of the newest punches from Fiskars and created, what I think, is a fun little layout.

I hope you can take a second, pop over, and check it out…  there’s a giveaway…

a little green goodness

a little green goodness

As you will see when Thursday arrives, the kids are truly looking forward to St. Patrick’s Day this year.  In an effort to help egg on their obsession with the holiday, I made cute little name banners for our dining room chairs using some goodies I happened to have…

Here’s what I did…

First I grabbed myself a Maya Road Banner book, opened it up, and took it apart.  Then I sprayed it with some great Luminarte spray in a bright green.

Once they were dry, I used a heart squeeze punch from Fiskars and some glue dots to create little clovers.  I added these and some alpha stickers to create a mask on the banners.

I went back in and sprayed with some darker sprays to add depth and to make the green pop when we were done.

Finally, once everything was dry, I added some fabric and trim goodness and, of course, some Bazzill Bling!

Once they were done, all that was left was to add them to the chairs.  Easy Peasy – cute and cheesy!

Now – who wants a chance to make a banner of their own????  I am including some pretty Bazzill Bling, a Maya Road banner album, some Prima flowers, trims, and of course some Luminarte Sprays.  And, even though it is not pictured, you will need a Fiskars punch to create a mask of your own, so I will grab one from my secret stash and throw that in as well!

Leave a comment on this post and I will draw a winner Tuesday night!  Good luck and happy crafting!

overdue project…

overdue project…

My boys love mini-books.  They will sit and pour over their contents for hours, looking at every book that they can find.  I appreciate that, as do most scrapbookers.  They are looking at it and enjoying it, laughing and recounting the events of their lives.

So, they were very excited when I FINALLY made them a book from last year’s New Years Eve adventure… and I mean last year ringing in 2010.

I just love this little book.  It is super frilly and somewhat over the top, but isn’t that what it is all about – playing, creating, and just having fun with it all?!?!?

To make this project a tad simpler, I pulled together my papers and book from one collection - Lush from My Mind’s Eye.  I then kept that pallet going with the embellishments and alphas, staying within the black, white, and gray range.  It made the whole project go fairly quickly.

So my next question is…  would you like to make a quick little “lush” mini-book?

If so, leave a comment here and I will draw a winner the end of the day Thursday for a complete little kit to make your own!

Includes:  Lush album and Bella Blvd paper from My Mind’s Eye, buttons, keys, tulle, ribbon, bling buttons from Bazzill, flowers from Prima and Maya Road, and a chandelier charm.

time management

time management

is an art I have yet to master.  I seem to go in waves…

Waves of time where I have time – time to play, time to sleep, time to create, time to live life, time to enjoy the little moment.s

Then there are other waves, big ginormous ones, that hit…

Waves of time when I have very little time to eat lunch, no time to play, sleep is luxury, and I feel like the train is half off the tracks…

That second wave has been this week.  It has left me exhausted and frustrated.  It has drained me completely and left me waiting for the tides to recede and for a wave of time to flow in…  not sure if and when that will happen as I look at my upcoming months, but I hope so for my sake and my family’s sake…

I hope to have some pics of a couple projects to share over the weekend.

Also – how are your 1440 projects coming along… so far only one person has loaded their project…  You have until the end of the day on March 31st to load your day to be entered into the contest…  Can’t wait to see what you do!
